Happy Father's Day Dads
Erik's dad passed away last January very unexpectically from a heart attack. The reason I mention his cause of death is because I was thinking about him today and I started chuckling to myself. I thought that he probably died of a heart attack because his heart was toooooo big for this world. We love him and miss him. This is a video that was made last year for the first Father's Day without him.
This is my dad! I think the picture explains enough! He is nothin' but a softy! (sorry dad) But its true he is goofy, huggable, smart, and loves his grandkids! Happy Father's Day dad! We love everything about you, even if you do think that you are right ALLLLL the time. Just Kiddin'! We love ya!

Tuesday Night or Fire Fight?
Later on in the day we decided to go back to his house to see if the roads were open so we could assess the damage. Well the roads were still closed but they were letting people back in on foot. The fire was still burning across the street but it was mostly "hot spots". So Erik and Curtis (my brother) went in to help. All the while I'm driving around trying to find a pay phone because my cell phone died and I didn't know where Erik was. Anyways I got a hold of Erik and he told me that road was open and they were just putting out "hot spots" with a garden hose and buckets of water. So I decide to drive to the house to pick up Erik so we could go home. I couldn't have been more wrong about what was going to happen next. I parked the car, got out to look around and things were pretty bad! Everything was torched across the street and the guys were doing a great job of keeping the fire away from the homes. Almost a minute after I got out of the car we hear someone yelling for help. We turn around to find 10ft high flames right in front of us. I pick up Treven (I know, I know, mother of the year award for letting my son out at a fire!) and throw him in the car and we drive off to find a fire truck while we watched Erik disappear into the smoke and flames. OK so to condense the story, Erik, Curtis, my dad, and whoever else was standing near by were able to stop the flames from reaching the houses! Yippee!
The kids and I had started on our way to my moms house because I didn't know where else to go and lets face it, in times of distress everyone wants their mom! Now let me remind you that the last time I saw Erik was as he was running INTO the fire! So I am completely validated in my tears! Yes, I was bawling like a baby. I didn't know what else to do and remember that my cell phone was not working, so I had no way of knowing if Erik was O.K.! As I was driving, in between my sobs, Treven very gently says "Mom, it's o.k. Jesus is going to save my daddy." Talk about faith. My fears have never subsided so fast as they did in that car at that time. If Treven knew that his daddy was going to be OK, then I needed to trust him!
So that is just a small overview of the Bassett happenings on Tuesday night. We went back to the site of the fire today to take some video footage for our family to see how "STUPID" we were.

Starting His 4th Year Out With A BANG!
It all started when we came home from the park that morning. Trev said that he was cold and wanted a blanket, but I noticed that his whole body was shaking and he had goose bumps the size of Road Island all over. I took his temp and what do ya know...103! Yikes! So immediately I made him down the Motrin(best stuff since sliced bread) and a big glass of fluids. A couple of hours later Trev tells me that he wants to lay in mommy's bed and talk about Jesus. So not being able to resist his sweet request we laid down and began to talk and look at books about Jesus. Then the unthinkable happened...he fell asleep! We are talking about a kid who WON'T sleep unless you give him an ultimatum. O.k. so to make a long story even longer, he wakes up about 45 mins later screaming that his head hurt and he couldn't open his eyes, he couldn't walk, and he couldn't really swallow his spit. I finally got him to open his eyes and they were rolling around in their sockets like a bunch of bowling balls(this is where I start to FREAK OUT) not to mention that his temp was 103 with Motrin in his system!
Side note: I over react and Erik under reacts, that is why we are perfect for each other. Balance.
Back to the story...I am freaking out in a calm matter when Erik comes home from golfing. He takes one look at Trev and says to me "I think we need to take him to the ER!" What? If Erik thinks that he needs to go to the ER then this must be really bad.
We load up the kids(Maycie, by the way, is being a perfect little angel! Thank you Heavenly Father!) and start on our way to the hospital. Treven is soooo lethargic that we are trying to keep him awake with questions.
"Treven, are you tired?"
"uhg" the only response that we could get out of him
"Trev, do you want to go to sleep?"
"uhg"
"What are you going to dream about?"
"Jesus"
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? A totally unresponsive kid telling me that he just wants to go to sleep and dream about Jesus? I'm now thinking that he is going to die! Erik speeds up and we make it to the ER only to find out that they couldn't find anything out! Blood test, chest x-rays, and an exam found nothing abnormal. So we got sent home with the instructions to continue the Motrin and lots of fluids.
So, here we are 3 DAYS later and his temp is still about 102! "Oh it's just a virus" is all we are told. Anyways, so much for a healthy start to his 4th year of his short little life so far. Here's to the next 11 months, may they find us NOT in the ER!

This One Is For You!
This past week I have been out of town on a business trip! (hehe, makes me sound important) Anyways today we had the opportunity to take a drive up a mountain. By the time we were at the top we had reached 8000 feet elevation. O.K. so you have to understand that where I live the elevation is like 140 feet. So 8000 is a big deal. Anywho, as I was driving on an extremely curvy road we pulled over at a vista point(aka picture spot). We could see the entire valley, it was truly a site to see. Then my good friend and business partner who was also in the car pointed out that you could see the road that took us all the way back to where we were staying. Now call it cheesy or whatever you prefer but I call it "my little insight into heaven". I got to thinking about how high up we were, the fact that it seemed like you could see everything, and of course our Heavenly Father.
So I suppose that what we were privileged to view on top of that mountain was a little like heaven and what our Heavenly Father all the time. The road home is sooooo clear to him from where he sits that I'm sure He just wants to reach down and give us a little push in the right direction.
When we returned to the base of the mountain we could only view about 1 mile in front of us.
Kinda interesting that we took a drive to kill some time and in return was able to have "my little insight into heaven".
This might not make sense to anyone reading this but I figured that it beat posting something about spring.
So I write this one for you( you know who you are) and maybe it will get a few other minds turning as to what our Heavenly Father sees.

Kids Say The Darnest Things!
Anyways, Treven says to me "Mom, my hair is sweaty so I've had a long day! Lets go home and rest."
Then I say to him "Do you want to roll your window down and get some fresh air?"
He replies with a grunt and proceeds to roll down his window. After about 10 seconds (no joke) he says "Please roll the window up, I don't like the air in my hair."
His word choice was just soooo cute. Not wind or fresh air, it was just "air in my hair".
O.k. so maybe noboby thinks thats as cute as I do, but he says some of the cutest things.
