VACATION

We did it! We went on our FIRST FAMILY VACATION... to SAN DIEGO! I can't even begin to explain how much fun we had. It was everything I could have asked for and more! I have perfect kids and my best friend for a husband. That alone is enough, but then add on top of that LegoLand and the Zoo...that's a recipe for a perfect vacation!

These pictures are from our first adventure...LegoLand!
These pictures are from our second adventure...the Zoo!

And in my opinion...This should win some sort of award for cuteness!

I'm sure there will be more pictures soon seeing as we took over 100 of em'!

Needless to say fun was had by all.

Ouch!!!

How do your tell you children that what your about to do is going to hurt like "H-E-Double Hockey Sticks" but it is for their good? What I am, stupid? I should have just had their dad take them. Treven, Maycie and I got our flu shots today! OUCH!!!! Here is what we did for the next 2 hours (see above picture).
Would you like to hear our reactions? Here goes...
Treven: "I'm angry at you mom. You know why? Because you made everything on my body hurt! I hate shots."
Maycie: "Owwww" (With the biggest alligator tears you have ever seen)
Me: "What the....? This freakin' hurts!" (In my head of course)
Oh well, needless to say, it kept us from getting the flu last year so...here's to another "Flu Free" year.

Expanding Vocabulary

O.K., so Treven has been speaking in full sentences since he was like 2 and has never really stop amazing his father or I. So I don't know why I am so excited to listen to him speak lately. He has been going to preschool for 5 weeks, and to listen to him tell me about his day and about what he learned and to watch him implement it at home is absolutely heart warming. Some of his most recent additions to his vocabulary include, but are not limited to:
Disgusting
Excellent
Humongous

Then we have his new phrases that he states so grown up:
Don't worry about me, I'll be fine
You've got to be kidding me
I don't appreciate that

And this one takes the cake:
Mommy, I love you all the way to Heaven and Grandma's house and the park and back! That's a lot of love. I win!

6 Quirks

I've been tagged...but here's the thing: I can't ever remember to do these games! But I liked this one that my friend Leah sent me so here goes. I am supposed to list 6 Quirks about me.
1. I love, love, love steamed carrots and ketchup
2. My favorite pair of shorts is from Wal-Mart
3. I love to plan parties but hate to throw them
4. I heard my voice once on a answering machine and now I won't leave messages
5. I have a hard time saying "No" to anyone (please don't take advantage of that)
6. Everyday when my husband leaves, I pray that he doesn't die (that is courtesy of my father-in-law)

The list really goes on and on but I'll spare ya for now!

Train Ride Tuesday

Treven and Andon (his best friend) took a train ride to San Francisco. Words can not describe how much fun they had. Here are a couple of pictures to prove my point. Treven and Andon are only 5 months apart and they couldn't be better buddies. All that was missing were their cousins Logan & Brayden!

Friday Fun

Here are just a few pictures from our Friday Outing. We started the day out by going to the Jelly Belly Factory. I got this idea from my cousin. She is what you would call a "Field Trip Mommy". She likes to take her kids to places to show them how things are made and what not. So I thought that I would like to try the same thing. We had a wonderful time watching Jelly Belly's being made! Treven was fascinated but Maycie was a little afraid of all the people. And there was A-LOT of people! I guess everyone and their mom's dog had the same idea. But fun anyhow!
Then we headed over to a little amusement park for families. It was the perfect sized park for a number of reasons. My 4 year old could ride every ride by himself and my 1 year old could ride all of them with us holding her! That to me, is family friendly. Also, we were able to ride all the rides, play video games, and make memories in about 1 1/2 hours! Perfect sized park in all aspects!
All in all, we had a tired family when we got home, but a happy one at that! Nothing beats good clean family fun!

Maycie, Maycie, Maycie

Erik's mom fell outside of our home and broke her foot last week! She was saying goodbye to Treven who was standing in the window waving and she lost her footage and slip and broke her foot. We went running outside to help her, naturally! Well, Maycie was in her highchair so I knew, just knew she would be O.K. for 2 mins while we helped Erik's mom. Oh boy, I couldn't have been more WRONG! This is what we found the little missy doing when we came back in...
She had wiggled herself out of the highchair and onto the TABLE where her applesauce apparently couldn't wait to be eaten! O.K. so if that doesn't qualify me for "Mom of the Year" award, just take a good look at how close she is to the edge! AHHHHH!
Now look at her face..."What, what did I do?"

San Diego or Bust...

My sisters and I decided to surprise my mom with a trip to San Diego! We didn't tell her anything about the trip until about 3 hours till our plane left. Her reaction to the surprise was far better than any of us could have ever asked for. This is the first trip that just all us girls have gone on. We did plenty of shopping, eating, talking, seeing, and anything else that we could think of. NO KIDS! It was truly a vacation for me! We had a blast and we think we are going to try and make this an annual thing! (Not the surprise, of course.)
We never realized how much we all looked alike until this trip. It was great!

Nothing To "Blog" Home About?

My beautiful little princess has scared her face! She has fallen and split her lip and gums open. She is now the owner of TWO NEW STICHES!
Poor little baby!
I kept asking her, last night in the emergency room, "Do I Love Maycie?" To which she would reply "Ya".
I don't think there is anything much worse than seeing your baby in pain and not being able to help.
I Know the picture is a little blurry (Sorry, I don't have my Nikon D40 yet) but it is her top lip on the left. Yeah, the one that looks a little funny!

Happy Father's Day Dads

Erik's dad passed away last January very unexpectically from a heart attack. The reason I mention his cause of death is because I was thinking about him today and I started chuckling to myself. I thought that he probably died of a heart attack because his heart was toooooo big for this world. We love him and miss him. This is a video that was made last year for the first Father's Day without him.

This is my dad! I think the picture explains enough! He is nothin' but a softy! (sorry dad) But its true he is goofy, huggable, smart, and loves his grandkids! Happy Father's Day dad! We love everything about you, even if you do think that you are right ALLLLL the time. Just Kiddin'! We love ya!

Tuesday Night or Fire Fight?

So we get this call from my brother telling us that there is a wild fire across the street from his house and that he has been ordered to evacuate in one minute. Well for those of you who don't know what kind of people Erik and I are....we love to follow fires, storms, tornadoes, or pretty much anything that has to do with natural disaster! I don't really know why we like to do these sorts of things. I would like to believe that its because we are so eager to serve and help anyone in need that we follow these events to see if we can help, but I'm afraid its just more for the thrill.
Anyways after the phone call from my brother, we decide to go meet up with him and kinda hang out so that he stays calm (after all it is only HIS HOUSE!).
This is the video clip from the side of the road where we were watching the fire. Just keep in mind that his house is right where you see the BIG cloud of smoke...

Later on in the day we decided to go back to his house to see if the roads were open so we could assess the damage. Well the roads were still closed but they were letting people back in on foot. The fire was still burning across the street but it was mostly "hot spots". So Erik and Curtis (my brother) went in to help. All the while I'm driving around trying to find a pay phone because my cell phone died and I didn't know where Erik was. Anyways I got a hold of Erik and he told me that road was open and they were just putting out "hot spots" with a garden hose and buckets of water. So I decide to drive to the house to pick up Erik so we could go home. I couldn't have been more wrong about what was going to happen next. I parked the car, got out to look around and things were pretty bad! Everything was torched across the street and the guys were doing a great job of keeping the fire away from the homes. Almost a minute after I got out of the car we hear someone yelling for help. We turn around to find 10ft high flames right in front of us. I pick up Treven (I know, I know, mother of the year award for letting my son out at a fire!) and throw him in the car and we drive off to find a fire truck while we watched Erik disappear into the smoke and flames. OK so to condense the story, Erik, Curtis, my dad, and whoever else was standing near by were able to stop the flames from reaching the houses! Yippee!

The kids and I had started on our way to my moms house because I didn't know where else to go and lets face it, in times of distress everyone wants their mom! Now let me remind you that the last time I saw Erik was as he was running INTO the fire! So I am completely validated in my tears! Yes, I was bawling like a baby. I didn't know what else to do and remember that my cell phone was not working, so I had no way of knowing if Erik was O.K.! As I was driving, in between my sobs, Treven very gently says "Mom, it's o.k. Jesus is going to save my daddy." Talk about faith. My fears have never subsided so fast as they did in that car at that time. If Treven knew that his daddy was going to be OK, then I needed to trust him!

So that is just a small overview of the Bassett happenings on Tuesday night. We went back to the site of the fire today to take some video footage for our family to see how "STUPID" we were.

Some more...

Rubber Necker?

After the whole fire incident yesterday, a fire broke out just a few miles away from our home. Luckily the winds were blowing in the opposite direction so we weren't threatened at all but...we did get a chance to rubber neck! The fire helicopters were "dippin" their buckets in a nearby lake and, of course,...we went to go watch! (What is our problem? Wouldn't ya think we learned our lesson yesterday?) We are just chalkin' these up as "once in a lifetime" opportunities
(we hope)!

Mt. Lassen

Random, I know! We were bored out of our minds one day and decided that we needed a little road trip. So we ended up at Mt. Lassen. Actually it was a nice change of scenery, and by that I mean we went from HOT to SNOW! Here are a couple of pictures from our trip!

A Little Update

What month are we in? It's June already? Our "May" was a little over booked with events. Treven turned 4, then we had the whole hospital incident (he is doing MUCH better by the way), Erik graduated from college (WWHOOWHOO!), and then Maycie turned 1! Wow, not to mention that both Erik and My entire family came to visit. All in all May was Great! Erik and I LIVE for family, any opportunity that we can take to see, visit or talk with family is our first priority! It was a blast having family come to visit that we don't get to see that often.
* *
These are just a small preview of the fun we had during May. The first pic is Erik's graduation(see if you can play "Where's Erik?"). And then of course my darling little girl on her birthday sporting the CUTE ducky clip that Aunt Crystal and Uncle Brian got her!

Starting His 4th Year Out With A BANG!

We have managed to keep Treven out of the Dr.'s office and the hospital for the ENTIRE 3rd year of his short little life! Anyone who knows what roller coaster we've been riding, knows that this was a huge accomplishment! Well, apparently when you boast, the Lord has a funny way of dishing you a slice of "Humble Pie"(its really tasty). Treven turned 4 on Monday and 2 days into the 4th year of his short little life we found ourselves at the Emergency Room.
It all started when we came home from the park that morning. Trev said that he was cold and wanted a blanket, but I noticed that his whole body was shaking and he had goose bumps the size of Road Island all over. I took his temp and what do ya know...103! Yikes! So immediately I made him down the Motrin(best stuff since sliced bread) and a big glass of fluids. A couple of hours later Trev tells me that he wants to lay in mommy's bed and talk about Jesus. So not being able to resist his sweet request we laid down and began to talk and look at books about Jesus. Then the unthinkable happened...he fell asleep! We are talking about a kid who WON'T sleep unless you give him an ultimatum. O.k. so to make a long story even longer, he wakes up about 45 mins later screaming that his head hurt and he couldn't open his eyes, he couldn't walk, and he couldn't really swallow his spit. I finally got him to open his eyes and they were rolling around in their sockets like a bunch of bowling balls(this is where I start to FREAK OUT) not to mention that his temp was 103 with Motrin in his system!
Side note: I over react and Erik under reacts, that is why we are perfect for each other. Balance.
Back to the story...I am freaking out in a calm matter when Erik comes home from golfing. He takes one look at Trev and says to me "I think we need to take him to the ER!" What? If Erik thinks that he needs to go to the ER then this must be really bad.
We load up the kids(Maycie, by the way, is being a perfect little angel! Thank you Heavenly Father!) and start on our way to the hospital. Treven is soooo lethargic that we are trying to keep him awake with questions.
"Treven, are you tired?"
"uhg" the only response that we could get out of him
"Trev, do you want to go to sleep?"
"uhg"
"What are you going to dream about?"
"Jesus"
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? A totally unresponsive kid telling me that he just wants to go to sleep and dream about Jesus? I'm now thinking that he is going to die! Erik speeds up and we make it to the ER only to find out that they couldn't find anything out! Blood test, chest x-rays, and an exam found nothing abnormal. So we got sent home with the instructions to continue the Motrin and lots of fluids.
So, here we are 3 DAYS later and his temp is still about 102! "Oh it's just a virus" is all we are told. Anyways, so much for a healthy start to his 4th year of his short little life so far. Here's to the next 11 months, may they find us NOT in the ER!

Blue Eyed Beauty

I was messing around with photoshop and this is the end product. Whadaya think? No, I did not change the color of her eyes! I made the entire photo black and white except for her eyes and her dress! Erik thinks it looks freaky but I think it looks kindda cool!

THE CAKE!

This was Treven's Birthday cake. A good friend of mine made this wonderful creation using cupcakes! She is so creative! Thank you!

It Seems Like Just Yesterday...

Yep, cheesey I know but it's true. I remember very well the day that Treven was born, 4 years ago! Anyways, we celebrated Treven's birthday in style and treated him like the little King that he is. Everyday he shows us how amazing, talented, smart, and loving he is. Here are some fun pictures of the event!

More Pictures To Come....(later)...

Princess Maycie

Here is our Princess, doing what she does best, lookin' cute. She loves her new stroller and so do I! (Its a Silver Cross, look it up if you are in the market for a new stroller! LOVE IT) Anyways, she is growing up soooo fast. She'll be 1yr at the end of this month! WOW.

Problem Solver

Maycie and Treven usually play very well together with the exceptions of the few rare occasions where they don't play so well together. This was one of those occasions. Apparently Treven didn't want Maycie to touch his Thomas the Train so he "locked" her up in his lap. Needless to say she wasn't so happy about this. But I was, on the other hand, quite amazed at his problem solving skills!

New Toy

Ok, so I got this really, really cool new toy! A Cricut machine! This thing is awesome, amazing, simple to use, and everything you could think of in one machine! These are the baby shower invitations that I made and everything you see is cut out using this Cricut thing (except the little bow)!

Fun with Photoshop (Take 2)

Fun with Photoshop(take 1) didn't turn out so good. Apparently I could see the image on my computer, but as soon as I uploaded it...nothing! So here is another try. I am addicted to digital scrapbooking(or whatever they call it)!

Friday, April 18, 2008

Check out the details in this pic. Treven is "batman" with his cape, reading the newspaper like he is 40 years old and eating scrambled eggs and goldfish crackers for breakfast! Never does a day go by where this kid doesn't crack me up!
We had a once in a lifetime opportunity while we were on our trip, to feed a giraffe. O.K. so maybe some of you have already done this once or twice but I'm pretty sure it will be a once in a lifetime for Treven. He was sooooo brave! Now me, on the other hand was freaked out, wondering if anyone has ever died of a giraffe attack? Do you know what color their tongues are?

Treven at his Easter egg hunt (thanks Aunt Cortney and Uncle Cecil) and Maycie sportin' her new Easter dress!

CRAZY!

So what do you think of my new background? A Little crazy uh? Well to be honest with you, this is what my life would look like if it could be put into a picture. I know, I know we are all busy people with busy lives but I had an eye opening experience. Cool uh? O.K. so here it is....My life it toooooo full of stuff!!! I love my husband and I love my kids more than air. They will now be the only priority in my life. Everything else will take the back burner. Back to basics! I love a simple life, haven't had one in a long time, but I want one back. Any suggestions are welcome! My new motto: Calm...Cool...Collected!

This One Is For You!

O.K. so apparently, according to my ever so informative sister-in-law, I don't ever have any post that are comment worthy. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. So this one is for you (you know who you are)!
This past week I have been out of town on a business trip! (hehe, makes me sound important) Anyways today we had the opportunity to take a drive up a mountain. By the time we were at the top we had reached 8000 feet elevation. O.K. so you have to understand that where I live the elevation is like 140 feet. So 8000 is a big deal. Anywho, as I was driving on an extremely curvy road we pulled over at a vista point(aka picture spot). We could see the entire valley, it was truly a site to see. Then my good friend and business partner who was also in the car pointed out that you could see the road that took us all the way back to where we were staying. Now call it cheesy or whatever you prefer but I call it "my little insight into heaven". I got to thinking about how high up we were, the fact that it seemed like you could see everything, and of course our Heavenly Father.
So I suppose that what we were privileged to view on top of that mountain was a little like heaven and what our Heavenly Father all the time. The road home is sooooo clear to him from where he sits that I'm sure He just wants to reach down and give us a little push in the right direction.
When we returned to the base of the mountain we could only view about 1 mile in front of us.
Kinda interesting that we took a drive to kill some time and in return was able to have "my little insight into heaven".
This might not make sense to anyone reading this but I figured that it beat posting something about spring.
So I write this one for you( you know who you are) and maybe it will get a few other minds turning as to what our Heavenly Father sees.

This time of year is so fun for where we live. According to Treven, we have popcorn trees everywhere. The other day we were driving home and Treven says to me "This is great! We have lots of popcorn trees."

My kiddos at the park!

O.K. so I'm not sure how yummy this looks in a picture but it was one of the best dinners I have had lately! And the best part, Erik cooked it, packed it, and took our family on a picnic! Love It! Southwestern Chicken Taco Salad!!!!

Kids Say The Darnest Things!

Today, we were driving home from the park after spending some quality time with our good friends! ( No really, we had a great time! Thanks!)
Anyways, Treven says to me "Mom, my hair is sweaty so I've had a long day! Lets go home and rest."
Then I say to him "Do you want to roll your window down and get some fresh air?"
He replies with a grunt and proceeds to roll down his window. After about 10 seconds (no joke) he says "Please roll the window up, I don't like the air in my hair."
His word choice was just soooo cute. Not wind or fresh air, it was just "air in my hair".
O.k. so maybe noboby thinks thats as cute as I do, but he says some of the cutest things.

My Very Own Mr. Potatoe Head

Yes, that is a Mr. Potatoe Head sword and earring that my son has. He told me that he was Captain Hook and that if I was not nice, he would give me an earring!? Don't ask, I have no idea how he came up with that. I'm just glad that he didn't say anything worse. I'll take an earring over having to walk the plank!

Friday, February 29, 2008

Love this pic (don't mind the piles of laundry).
This is "Sir Treven" and he is jousting. As you can see Dad is the horse.
Here is the list of events, Trev stands on the couch and says, "Stand your ready." Then he runs down jumps on his dad with his lance, yells "charge", dad runs(gallops) into the couch, Trev pretends to fall off moaning, then gets down on one knee as dad, who is now the King, knights Trev. Quite a series of events and absolutly hillarious to watch!
